Heat
Convection
In
addition to the heat transfer by colliding molecules, the heat
is also transferred into
another medium by the movement of the air. The natural
convection takes place in a
simple manner when this movement results from the density
difference caused by
the heated air which rises and replaces the volume of the
colder air. '' We can briefly
define the heat convection which mostly takes place in liquid
or gaseous materials, as
the difference in the position of the warmed masses of
particules.''
When
the circulating pattern of air flow is prevented, the air
layer becomes a good heat
insulater.
In fact, the most of the heat insulating materials function by
making use of this
basic property. The air flow circulating in the exterior
layers of buildings can be minimized by allowing
appropriate combinations of different layers of the outer
layers of buildings
Radiation
The
radiant heat can not be transferred upon gases. The heat
transfer by radiation
emitted from the sun is the sole means of energy necessary for
the life on our planet. The
sun light is also viewed as the electromagnetic waves ranging
in specific lengths which

When two objects are separated by a space which is
itself a radiation permeable medium
(gas), the hotter object radiates energy whereas the cooler
object absorbs this electromagnetic

at the buildings anywhere in the world.
